Stop the idling, Sheriff Clark

Editor of the Reformer:

Here we go again. Sheriff Clark is raising the rates for towns the department works for, from $32 to $40 per hour.

I wonder if the towns don't pay, will they still get police help? That seems to be the way Mr. Dunn from Rescue Inc. does it. No pay me, no see me.

Mr. Clark states some of the reason was the rising cost of fuel and insurance. Well, Mr. Clark, we too feel the same crunch every payday -- at the pump and insurance offices.

I suggest to you, sir, that to save on fuel, you might direct your officers not to let the vehicles sit at an idle all day.

Plus, you'll be helping by reducing pollution. I see your patrol cars on the job at various places I travel and they are sitting there with the motor running, wasting precious gasoline. So, why should we pay you for that? Plus on Route 30, traffic flies 10-30 miles above the speed limit.

I would fully agree with your increase if we got an increase in your department's presence. I am constantly passed on corners and double solid lines. Worst is when traffic is coming towards me, nearly causing accidents. Route 30 needs more policing. Having said that, I would like to welcome you as our new sheriff and good luck.
