Former Windham Sheriff's captain pleads
innocent to unlawful restraint charge

Staff Report
BRATTLEBORO -- Capt. Heidi Nelson, the former second in command of the
Windham County Sheriff's Department, pleaded innocent Thursday to
charges of unlawful restraint of a 17-year-old student of hers from
Brattleboro Union High School.
Nelson, 42, appeared briefly in Brattleboro District Court before Judge
John Wesley, who ordered Nelson not to have any contact with the
student, who was not identified in court records.
According to court records, Nelson took the student with her to Florida
in February, and later lied to the student's mother about the trip.
Windham County Sheriff Keith Clark, who called Nelson a personal friend,
said that Nelson had resigned a month ago from the department.
