Former Sheriff Capt. Admits Trip With Teen

Newfane, Vermont - October 14, 2008

A former sheriff's captain in Windham County admitted she had a relationship with one of her students.

Heidi Nelson pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct. She will not go to jail. Nelson's case was referred to court diversion.

Investigators say she took a 17-year-old girl to Florida without the permission of the teen's parents. Nelson met the girl while teaching a law enforcement class at the Windham Regional Career Center in Brattleboro. She was also her softball coach at the high school.
